New Roles for Duffy Fellows at Legal Clinic for the Disabled

(Philadelphia) The attorneys serving in the roles of the “Duffy Fellow” at the Legal Clinic for the Disabled (LCD) have shifted roles inside the organization, but continue to help those with disabilities and low incomes throughout Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties receive free legal services.

Emily Jenkins, who joined LCD in 2020 as a staff attorney, has since been promoted to a supervising attorney position and named the Duffy Fellow at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. As part of LCD’s Medical/Legal Partnership (MLP) with the hospital, she works onsite with the medical staff to identify and address hardships negatively affecting patients' health, such as landlord-tenant, family law, special education, or immigration issues.

Duffy Fellow Theresa Brabson, who previously worked onsite at St. Chris as the MLP attorney, is now LCD’s Legal Director, overseeing the work of 22 attorneys, paralegals and support staff.

Tom Duffy first established the Duffy Fellowship at LCD in 2012 to assist in the agency’s mission by funding the salary of one staff attorney. In 2017, Duffy added funds to supplement a second fellowship. There are currently six fellows working in several nonprofits in the City of Philadelphia.

“The work that Theresa, Emily and all of the LCD attorneys do is vital to our society,” said Tom Duffy. “When we as attorneys put our knowledge and know-how toward helping individuals with matters involving unsafe housing, hunger, or income insecurity, the entire city and all of its residents benefit. I am very proud to have them in this role, and I deeply value the contributions they make each and every day.”

In 2023, The Duffy Firm marks 35 years of assisting the families of the catastrophically injured in Philadelphia. Learn more at duffyfirm.com.
