Duffy Fellowship Efforts at Legal Clinic for the Disabled Stronger Than Ever in 2026
Tom Duffy and LCD Executive Director Theresa Brabson thank Sona George and David Meinhart for bringing critical legal services to low-income individuals with disabilities across Philadelphia.
(Philadelphia) – A new Duffy Fellow has joined the Legal Clinic for the Disabled (LCD) to help extend its reach, bringing critical legal services to more low-income individuals with disabilities across Philadelphia.
New staff attorney Sona George now joins Duffy Fellow David Meinhart in the organization’s Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) initiative, marking a continued commitment to LCD’s onsite legal services within healthcare settings.
Launched in 2012 by Tom Duffy, founder of The Duffy Firm, the Duffy Fellowship funds staff attorney positions at various nonprofit organizations in the city, enabling the organizations to expand services to underserved communities.
“The Duffy Fellowship is absolutely vital to our work,” said LCD’s Executive Director Theresa Brabson, herself a former Duffy Fellow. “It not only allows us to reach more people in need, but it shows others in the city what is possible. When people see the impact our Fellows are making, it inspires additional support that helps us grow even further.”
Through the MLP model, attorneys work alongside healthcare providers to address civil legal issues -- such as housing instability, access to benefits, and family safety -- that directly impact health outcomes. George is based at Spectrum Health Services in West Philadelphia, LCD’s tenth MLP location in the city. Her presence strengthens the organization’s ability to meet patients where they already receive care.
Meinhart, meanwhile, continues his work at both the Project HOME Stephen Klein Wellness Center in North Philadelphia and Project HOME Hub of Hope in Center City, providing onsite legal support to patients facing complex challenges that can threaten their stability and well-being. Many individuals served by the center are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless.
The Duffy Firm has secured hundreds of millions for victims of injury in Philadelphia, including the largest medical malpractice settlement in Pennsylvania history, and the largest general liability settlement for a minor in Pennsylvania history. Learn more at duffyfirm.com.
