Tom Duffy Presents Seminar to Philadelphia Trial Lawyers
(Philadelphia, PA) – Tom Duffy delivered a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program yesterday to over 100 members of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association (PTLA) entitled “The Subtle and Not-So-Subtle Approaches to Damage.”
The program explored tactical and psychological methods used by litigators to present economic and non-economic damages to a jury. Key areas discussed by Duffy include:
- Subtle Approaches: Framing pain, suffering, and loss of life enjoyment through narrative pacing, subtle evidentiary cues, and anchoring concepts rather than explicit demands early in a trial.
- Not-So-Subtle Approaches: Direct, hard-hitting economic arguments, life-care plan breakdowns, and explicit statistical or multiplier frameworks used during closing statements to maximize verdicts in catastrophic injury cases.
The session provided PA CLE substantive credit as part of the PTLA’s ongoing educational programming for civil plaintiff and trial practitioner. The PTLA is Pennsylvania’s oldest trial lawyer organization and one of the most active networking hubs for lawyers in Philadelphia.
